A few years ago, NotMilk by NotCo entered the market to rave reviews. It was arguably the first milk alternative to make a fairly successful attempt at mimicking the taste and consistency of dairy milk. Their portfolio quickly grew to include Whole Milk, 2% Reduced Fat, 1% Low Fat, Chocolate, and Barista varieties. But like countless other companies, NotCo has made changes to sustain profitability. The NotMilk product range has shrunk, and they are now abandoning the refrigerated aisle. But have no fear, NotMilk is still available in shelf-stable packages!
NotMilk is Not Milk, but AI Says it Tastes Just Like It
Because of the uniqueness in this brand, and their changes over the years, I’m going to answer a few FAQs before jumping into the ingredients and nutrition facts.
NotMilk FAQs
Was NotMilk Discontinued? As mentioned, the refrigerated NotMilk line has been discontinued. You will no longer find them in the refrigerated section at grocery stores. But NotMilk has not been discontinued! You can still buy it in shelf-stable packages. It’s available in multi-serve 32-ounce cartons and 8-ounces singles.
Did NotMilk Change their Formula? They have changed it a couple of times. We do our best to keep up with the changes in the ingredients and nutrition facts below. In the most major change, they removed the coconut and the chicory root. This reduced the fat, calories, fiber, and some say, the richness in the flavor. It also made some of those “odd” ingredients, like pineapple, a bit more prominent.
Who Owns NotMilk? This milk alternative was created by the Chilean company NotCo. They received backing from several prominent venture capitalists, including Jeff Bezos. But the company is still independent.
Is NotMilk Truly Dairy-Free? With all of the confusion around technology and food, it’s hard to tell what’s really dairy-free these days! Some companies are using genetic engineering to create real dairy proteins from plants. Those products are vegan but not dairy free! NotCo is using advanced technology, but for the formula, not the production process. They used AI to develop a recipe that replicates the taste and texture of dairy-based milk. It’s vegan AND dairy-free, from beginning to end, and is made with the ingredients listed below.

NotMilk NYC is Now Nuthatch
There was another company called NotMilk NYC. They’ve been around longer, but NotMilk from NotCo does has a trademark on the name, so they were forced to change their name. NotMilk NYC is now Nuthatch. Nuthatch is small-batch nut milk produced by real hands with simple whole food ingredients. NotMilk from NotCo is mass produced with technology for a mainstream appeal and price point. The post above is for NotCo’s product.

wish they didn't make the change.
a year ago I was loving this product, was so dissapointed when I could no longer find the 2 lt cold in grocery store fridge,,,looked around and spotted them on shelf in tetro packs ,so small and so expensive And chicory and coconut was removed,,why? like why change a good thing? I always look for some sort of beneficial ingredient without fillers, now this product still tastes good and is a good replacement for milk ,and im sure they have some sort of valid reason like cost, but I just feel that the integrity has shifted.
Response from Go Dairy Free
The removal of coconut and chicory was in the refrigerated, about a year or so ago. The new shelf stable tetra packs have the same formula as the refrigerated.
NotMilk the best non dairy
Recently dairy free I have tried all the non dairy varieties. NotMilk is good in coffee, porridge and even tea. How disappointing that after December it will no longer be available in Australia. Needs to be tried and supported.
Excellent non dairy product
I saw this at a local grocery store and thought I’d try it and man was I surprised. The taste is excellent, not heavy or chalky like so many other non dairy “milks “.Unfortunately Kroger’s near me no longer sells it so I’ll have to dry a distance from my house to get it but I think it’s worth it,it doesn’t cramp me and it’s truly plant based. If you’re lactose intolerant as I am (severely)try it,you’ll be surprised.
Absolutely phenomenal!
Wonderful and fantastic in taste, texture and look! Truly looks and pours like cow’s milk and the taste is perfect for my needs. 99% of the taste fits so well with what I want the food to taste like as if I were using cow’s milk. Really love Not mlMilk and I used to purchase it as a stable, however it is now very difficult to find.
Better than dairy in some instances
I’m British. That means I drink tea (and coffee). And I like to put milk in my tea. Simply put, all plant-based milks don’t really taste like milk, then add them to hot tea and they separate and it’s a mess. But not Not Milk; it’s bloody brilliant and the only non-dairy milk for tea drinkers.
I also find that I now prefer it to real milk when I make a cappuccino (morning drink before I switch to tea for the rest of the day) as it froths really nicely and is, somehow, not as cloyingly sweet as real milk; perfetto really. For me at least, this is the future of milk.
Best milk alternative
That is the best of the best non dairy milk ever delicious rich yummy
The problem is that is so hard to get in nyc
Whole Foods stopped selling it 🤷♂️
Notmilk not available
Love the notmilk any flavor, the one star is because you say stores have it and that’s totally not the truth, here in Knoxville TN. It s a notmilk desert even though it’s advertising whole foods , earth fare , and only 8 0z is available in Kroger, please tell me why
Couldn't tell the difference
I really loved it, and I’m pretty picky about this stuff. I find the dairy substitutes often try to mask “off” flavors by adding sugar, which I don’t like. This one doesn’t. Same mouth-feel as milk, too. For those saying Whole Foods stopped carrying it, I bought mine at Sprouts.
excelent not dairy milk
taste-perfect, nutrition-OK
great that you drop coconut because coconut plantations are destroying the forests
in southeast asia.
Not celiac safe
I was happy to find a milk alternative that actually tastes decent in tea but after a couple weeks of it I started to get gastritis, a sure sign of a more insidious low level gluten contamination for me. On further inspection my container also notes it’s processed in a facility that also processed wheat, so maybe there’s cross contamination ? Or maybe just one too many man-made ingredients. Sadly I will be giving the rest away and aiming for a more natural ‘mylk’.
